The Victor Mourning and House Concerts

As mentioned elsewhere on this site, The Victor Mourning are very interested in playing alternative venues. We especially enjoy playing unplugged, we are an acoustic band after all. Towards that end we are very (very) interested in the house concert movement.

A house concert is just that, someone decides to host a concert in their home. This can be done as intimately as arranging to have a performer play your house and inviting a select group of your friends or in a more public way, advertising either within selected groups (a local folk music organization, for instance) or to the public in general.

House concerts generally have a "suggested" donation which is either taken at the door or during a mid-concert collection ("passing the hat"). All, or at least the vast majority, of the collection goes to the artist. House concerts are about a love of music and assisting the artist to be able to afford to get to their next show, not about turning a profit.

There are folks out there that run regular house concert series, and we're glad that they exist. But there are also tons of folks out there who might not have considered hosting the occasional "one off" so that your favorite artist can play your town. We hope you will consider it or mention it to likely friends, whether you book us, or another artist, we'd like to see this culture spread and plan to host a few house concerts ourselves in the future.

The Victor Mourning is hoping to include house concerts in our tour plans, initially as something to fill in the gaps, but ultimately would love to be able to tour the US and Europe playing nothing but these sorts of shows.
